AI Times, a Korean AI publication, has published Managing Partner Yongduck Kim's column on AI patents.
Yongduck Kim, a patent attorney, focuses on patents in cutting-edge technology fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), smart factories, and blockchain, and has experience performing intellectual property (IP) work for various technology companies such as Samsung Electronics, LG Electronics, and Xiaomi. In addition, he has written books such as “AI Patent Examination Practice Guide” and “AI Patent Strategy” and continues to share his expert knowledge on AI technology and patent strategy.
In this column, we look at how generative AI is changing the structure of search services under the topic “How is Google trying to change the future of search? Patent analysis of personalized landing pages created directly by AI.” Until now, search had required users to click on search results and then browse multiple web pages to find information. However, with the development of generative AI, search engines are evolving beyond simply providing links to directly reconstructing the necessary information by analyzing user intentions and interests.
In the column, we analyze technology that uses AI to create customized landing pages in real time, focusing on Google's US patent US 12,536,233 (AI-generated content page tailored to a specific user). This technology utilizes various contextual data such as search terms, search history, user profile, preferences, and location information to provide a dedicated content page optimized for users instead of displaying the existing corporate homepage as is. Its characteristic is that it redesigns the search experience itself by being able to include product recommendations, creation of comparison tables, provision of customized information, and even integration with AI chatbot.
This column focuses on the fact that the role of search engines is changing from an information discovery tool to a personalized digital assistant, especially in the era of generative AI. Through the concept of ‘Landing Page Score’, which evaluates landing page quality, and the possibility of using AI-generated pages, we shed light on what changes the SEO strategy, e-commerce, and online advertising markets may face in the future. Furthermore, it is evaluated as an important example that shows the future of the search industry in that a company's homepage can change from being a final destination to a data source utilized by AI.
